How Do Students Use Student Stories?

On Web

Student access from teacher account:

Teachers need to set this up for on their Teacher Account before a student can use it.  

1. Start with a supported device, and log into your class

  • Log into your ClassDojo teacher account at www.classdojo.com
  • Select your class
2. At the bottom of the screen, click Student Mode.
 
3. Select Password lock, if desired (Recommended)
4. Click Switch to Student Mode.

 

Student access via class code:

1. Teachers should print out and post their QR Code in a place that's visible to all students.  Teachers can access their class code by doing the following:

  • Log into your ClassDojo teacher account at www.classdojo.com
  • Open your class
  • Click on the "Student Mode" button at the bottom of the screen
  • Click on the "Class Devices" tab, then the "Print Class Code Sheet"
  • Post the sheet in the classroom where students can access it and scan it, as needed
2. Have students go to studentmode.classdojo.com and click "Scan Class Code"
 
3. Have students scan the code.  Hint: Hold the device steady in front of the QR code until it's lined up within the box on the screen (some teachers put their class code sheet on a clipboard!) 

 

Students can now add photos to their Student Stories (pending your approval)!
1. Click Take a photo!
2. Click the camera icon to start a 3-second countdown.
3. Hold up your work until the countdown completes
4. Students can optionally add a caption or select other students (if it's group work) before submitting the photo for your approval.
5. You can keep the device permanently logged in to student mode or click Exit student mode in the top right corner of the screen to return to your teacher account,

iOS

Students can add to their Stories with an iPad running the latest version of our app! 

1. Teachers should print out and post their class code in a place that's visible to all students.  Teachers can access their class code by doing the following:

  • Log into your ClassDojo teacher account at www.classdojo.com.
  • Select the class whose class code you'd like to print.
  • At the bottom of the screen, select "Student mode". Click the  "class devices" tab and "show code". Either display the class code on a Smartboard or click "Print class code sheet" to print a larger class code that you can post somewhere in your classroom.  
2. Have students open the ClassDojo app on a classroom iPad and tap "Student" at the bottom of the screen.                                                                                                                                                                                                                
 
3. Aim the iPad camera towards the class code and fit the code inside the 4 white corners displayed on the iPad screen.
4. Select either "photo" or "video" and take the photo/video.  Note: the time limit on Student Story videos is 30 seconds! 
  • To take a video, tap one of the red buttons on either side of the screen.  A red box will appear at the bottom of the page to display the length of the video.
5. Students can add a caption to their photo or video, and can then click the blue, right arrow to finish their Student Story post, or click the left arrow to retake the photo or video.  
 
6. On the next page, students can select themselves and/or classmates whose work it is.  
 
7. Pressing the blue, right arrow will upload the post to the teacher's account for approval.
8. Once the post has been approved by a teacher, students can log into their student account to see it from any mobile device.  Students will also see posts they've been tagged in!  

Android

1. Teachers should print out and post their class code in a place that's visible to all students.  Teachers can access their class code by doing the following:

  • Log into your ClassDojo teacher account at www.classdojo.com.
  • Select the class whose class code you'd like to print.
  • At the bottom of the screen, select "Student mode".
  • Click the  "class devices" tab.   Either display the class code on a Smartboard or click "Print class code sheet" to print a larger class code that you can post somewhere in your classroom.  
2. Have students open the ClassDojo app on their class Android device and tap "Student" at the bottom of the screen.

3. Aim the Android camera towards the class code and fit the code inside the 4 white corners displayed on the screen.

4. Select either "photo" or "video" and take the photo/video.  Note: the time limit on Student Story videos is 30 seconds! 
  • To take a video, tap the red button in the center of the screen.  You'll see a white progress line over the record button to indicate how much time you have recorded and have remaining.  Tap the red button again to stop recording at any time.

5.  You'll see a Preview screen.  Tap the check mark to approve.  Tap the "X" to delete and record a new video.

  • For Video: Tap the center of the screen to play the video.

6. Students can now add a caption, then tap the blue arrow to move to the next step

7. On the next page, students can select themselves and/or classmates whose work it is, then tap the blue arrow to submit the post for teacher approval.

Once the post has been approved by a teacher, students can log into their student account to see it from any mobile device.  Students will also see posts they've been tagged in!
